Highland Beach is a small, affluent, primarily residential town in Palm Beach County, sandwiched between Boca Raton to the south and Delray Beach to the north, along a narrow barrier island stretch bordered by the Atlantic Ocean on one side and the Intracoastal Waterway on the other. It’s only about 3 miles long and a few blocks wide, giving it a quiet, low-density feel despite being surrounded by busier South Florida cities.

Why Live in Highland Beach?
The town is dominated by high-rise and mid-rise oceanfront/intracoastal condominiums, along with some luxury single-family homes and townhomes, mostly on the west side near the Intracoastal. There’s very little vacant land left, so most activity is resale rather than new construction. Condo buildings range from older, well-established properties to more recently renovated luxury towers.
Highland Beach is known for being quiet, private, and low-key compared to nearby Boca Raton or Delray Beach — there’s no real commercial strip, nightlife, or big shopping within the town itself. Residents typically drive a few minutes to Boca Raton or Delray for restaurants, shopping, and entertainment. It appeals a lot to retirees, seasonal/snowbird residents, and buyers who want beach access without a busy tourist scene.
